Canadian Grand Prix Recap

Montreal presented us with the fourth different race winner of the F1 season as George Russell crossed the line ahead of Max Verstappen and teammate Kimi Antontelli. It was the first podium of the season without a McLaren driver, in what was, until the final few laps, a fairly uneventful Canadian Grand Prix.

There was the usual Ferrari strategy saga, as Charles Leclerc made it clear he wanted Plan C while the team proceeded with Plan B. Lewis Hamilton’s meeting with a groundhog caused damage to his Ferrari early on in the race.

While the two McLaren drivers, who were left to race, saw Lando Norris go for a gap that was just not there, ending his grand prix just a few laps before the end. The drivers crossed the line behind the safety car, with the British driver taking full responsibility for the move on his teammate.

Kimi Antonelli secured his first-ever F1 podium, finishing third, as Mercedes moved up into second place in the Constructors standings, 175 points behind McLaren.

Winners so far this season:

  • Australian GP – Lando Norris
  • Chinese GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Japanese GP – Max Verstappen
  • Bahrain GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Saudi Arabia GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Miami GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Emilia Romagna GP – Max Verstappen
  • Monaco GP – Lando Norris
  • Spanish GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Canadian GP – George Russell

Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying Preview

The Austrian Grand Prix 2024 saw Max Verstappen top of the charts at Red Bull’s home race, with Lando Norris second, and George Russell in third.

However, in a season that is no longer dominated by the Red Bull, it is all to play for back at the Red Bull Ring.

In Montreal, qualifying, the Mercedes of Russell stole the show, placing his Silver Arrow at the front of the grid. He went on to turn his pole position into a win, taking him into Austria looking to secure two wins from two, not only race weekends in a row, but two Austrian Grand Prix races in a row, having won the 2024 edition.

McLaren is likely to be back on form and looking to get back on the front row, with Ferrari and Red Bull also looking competitive in the qualifying sessions across the season so far.

Mercedes Main Character Energy

A pole position, P1 in the race, and P3? Mercedes are on top of the world in what is the best team result for them yet this season.

Montreal was the kind of weekend Toto Wolff and his team needed, and with George Russell driving better than ever and Antontelli securing a podium finish, they will be hopeful to replicate the same in Austria.

Before, the headlines were on Russell and Verstappen, and this weekend could see the same. The two drivers will go head-to-head at the Red Bull Ring, with the Dutchman looking to win at his team’s home track and Russell going for two wins from two races and two Austrian Grand Prix victories in a row.
